About the Campaign
At Sanders Corner Elementary School in Ashburn, we have been using our makerspace in several different ways: as an enrichment activity, as a support to the math and science Standard of Learning tests (SOLs), and just for fun! In each of these scenarios our students’ response to visiting the makerspace has been overwhelmingly positive. The makerspace has been able to meet the needs of a wide range of students—from students needing enrichment activities to those needing extra attention and reinforcement.
Given the success of the makerspace, we would like to expand the materials available to our students in it. As one of the few makerspaces in an elementary school, we are “learning as we go.” Part of the learning process is soliciting our students’ feedback as to the kinds of materials they would like in the space. This fundraising campaign is specifically for the purchase of more SnapCircuits and littleBits for learning electronics; Makey Makey kits, Squishy Circuits, and KEVA planks.
With more tools, we will be able to reach more students and ignite more excitement and joy for learning at Sanders Corner Elementary School!
